During World War II, a hard-fought front line ran through this area, which during a long period of time led to the destruction of the area and a lot of suffering for the population. On both sides of the border, with a lot of involvement from the people, the reconstruction was lengthy. The information panels on the -D-NL- walking route are a symbol of understanding, reconciliation, freedom and peace.
